PAS has defended its decision to appoint Tan Sri Annuar Musa as Director of the party’s campaign for the upcoming Sabah state election, clarifying that the move was not due to a lack of qualified local candidates, but rather based on Annuar’s vast experience and deep understanding of Sabah’s political landscape.

Party Vice President Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said suitable local leaders in Sabah would still be fielded as candidates, but the decision to bring in Annuar was made to ensure the election machinery is managed effectively.

“It’s not that there are no qualified locals — those who are will be selected as candidates for the state election. But that’s exactly why we didn’t appoint a local as election director, to avoid any disorganisation,” he said.

Speaking during a public address at the 70th Anniversary of PAS Kelantan last night, Mohd Amar added: “Annuar Musa has extensive experience and was previously appointed as Election Director in Sabah for Barisan Nasional (BN). The knowledge he has of Sabah’s geopolitical landscape surpasses that of others. We believe that experience and insight will help the party plan its strategy effectively.”

The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that nomination day for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) will take place on 15 November, with early voting on 25 November and polling day scheduled for 29 November.

EC Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun has also confirmed that the writ for the election has been issued, officially setting the process in motion. - October 19, 2025
