THE mother and daughter killed in a tragic incident in Kampung Sekolah, Juru in Bukit Mertajam on Saturday died from severe neck injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon.
Penang Hospital Forensic Pathologist Datuk Dr Zahari Noor said that the post-mortem results found that both victims suffered serious injuries to the back of their necks, believed to be the main cause of their death.
"I believe both victims died at about the same time. The injuries suffered were very severe and caused by a sharp weapon such as a meat cleaver," he said as reported by Sinar Harian.
Dr Zahari said the results also found other injuries on the victim's bodies, indicating that there was a possibility of a struggle before the incident.
He explained that the injuries showed that they were trying to fend off the attack.
Based on observations, the mother was attacked first before the suspect went upstairs and attacked her daughter.
Earlier, Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said police were still continuing their investigation to identify the motive for the murder of the duo.
According to him, so far a man, the victim's 57-year-old husband, has been remanded for a week until October 25 to assist in the investigation.
"Although the man has been arrested, the investigation is still continuing to identify the motive for the incident and the real perpetrators involved," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, he added. – October 19, 2025
