IN an attempt to strengthen the community welfare agenda, MCA Sabah Treasurer Datuk Chin Kim Hiung initiated distributing free reading glasses to residents in three Sandakan districts.
The programme was held at Kampung Air, Kampung Bokara, and Kampung Karamunting, with the support of village heads and local communities. The initiative was warmly received, particularly by elderly residents struggling with near-sightedness.
“Our main objective is to help those in need, especially the elderly. A small aid such as a pair of glasses can make a significant difference in their lives.” Chin said, highlighting the impact of the modest yet meaningful gesture.
Chin, who also serves as MCA Karamunting Coordinator, added that seeing the smiles of recipients trying on their new glasses motivates him and his team to continue serving the community. “Seeing their happy faces becomes our main motivation to continue this effort,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to the village leaders and volunteers who helped make the programme a success. “We will continue to move forward in providing aid and care to more residents in need. Every small effort reflects sincerity and concern for the community,” he added.
Looking ahead, Chin revealed that the programme will expand to other areas, including the provision of solar lamps and essential items to further improve local welfare.
“We want to ensure that no group is left out from receiving welfare benefits. This initiative is not merely about material aid, but also an effort to strengthen the relationship between leaders and the people.” Chin said. - October 25, 2025
