A GOVERNMENT lawmaker has called for Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu) to be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee following his claim that Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) personnel had attacked Masjid Rusila.

The allegation was made by Takiyuddin during the debate on the 2026 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on 22 October. Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) confirmed that he had submitted a motion to the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, which is currently under consideration.

“In my view, such a statement is inappropriate and could damage the dignity and integrity of this esteemed house. I have therefore requested that the Speaker consider summoning the MP for Kota Bharu to withdraw all related statements and offer an apology to this House,” Suhaizan said at a press conference in Parliament today.

He added that should the matter not be properly addressed, he recommends that it be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee for further investigation, in accordance with Standing Order 36 (12).

Last Thursday, Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified that the allegation of APMM personnel raiding Masjid Rusila in Marang, Terengganu, was a misunderstanding that had been resolved by authorities.

The incident, he explained, involved six APMM personnel stopping to perform Asar prayers during a structured training exercise and should not have been misinterpreted.

Takiyuddin had previously expressed concern over the exercise, claiming it mirrored the 1985 Memali incident. During the Dewan Rakyat debate, Saifuddin stated that a separate group of 10 to 15 individuals had entered Masjid Rusila without permission, wearing shoes, entering the women’s prayer area, and conducting a search. - October 27, 2025
