THE Electric Train Service (ETS) is expected to extend its route to Johor Bahru by mid-December, with ticket sales set to begin once final testing and adjustments are completed, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said on Sunday.
He said the technical team was in the final phase of trials to ensure the service could be safely launched before the end of the year, enhancing rail connectivity between Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
“We are still in the final stages of preparation and are looking for a suitable launch date, as there are still some finishing touches to be done,” he told reporters after attending the Johor DAP 2025 Annual Delegates Conference.
Loke, who is also the Secretary-General of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), said the upcoming expansion of the ETS network comes at an opportune time as Johor prepares for both “Visit Malaysia Year 2026” and “Visit Johor Year 2026”.
“This new railway will greatly improve the convenience of travel for passengers and inject vitality into the local tourism industry,” he said.
He noted that the double-track electric train had reached Segamat earlier this year and was extended to Kluang a few months later.
“I believe this new service will be a major catalyst for the development of Johor’s tourism industry, and the Ministry of Transport will continue to strengthen public transportation facilities across districts in conjunction with the Tourism Year promotion,” he added. - November 2, 2025
