MALAYSIANS are expected to have the opportunity to witness the biggest and brightest supermoon of the year at 9.19pm tonight (Nov 5).

According to reports in timeanddate.com, November's full moon is called the Beaver Moon and occurs during the moon’s closest approach to Earth.

The distance is about 356,832 km away and nine hours and 11 minutes prior to that, the moon will officially turn full.

Apart from that, Malaysians can also look forward to a meteor shower that will be visible tonight.

According to the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA), the Southern Taurid meteor shower, active from 23 September to 20 November, is expected to peak between 9pm tonight and the early hours of tomorrow.

Known for producing bright fireballs, the Taurids offer a slower-than-average meteor speed, which makes their fireballs easily visible and breath-taking for observers.

Viewers may spot around five meteors per hour, though MYSA noted that the brightness of the full moon could affect visibility.

One can enjoy the sight with the naked eye, although binoculars or a telescope will give you a better view. – November 5, 2025
