POLICE are investigating the suspected concealment of a birth after the remains of a baby were discovered in a drain behind a house at the Padang Setengge housing area in Hulu Terengganu on Friday.

District police chief Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab said the case was being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which concerns the concealment of a birth by secretly disposing of a body.

He said the district police headquarters received a report at 6.52pm from a man informing them of the discovery.

The remains were found by a woman who was washing clothes behind her house. She subsequently alerted the Padang Setengge Housing Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

“Only one arm and both legs were present when the baby was found, while the sex and nationality of the baby have yet to be established,” Sharudin said on Friday.

Police have requested assistance from the Terengganu contingent police headquarters’ D10 forensic unit and K9 unit to examine the scene and gather evidence.

The forensic department at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital has also been notified to conduct a post-mortem examination.

Sharudin said the motive remained under investigation and no arrests had been made. - October 17, 2026
