THE dreams of around 30 women seeking prosperity turned to despair after they were allegedly duped by a social media influencer, who purportedly made millions selling “lucky” jewellery claiming to bring feng shui benefits.
The influencer, a local woman, reportedly required deposits before allowing potential buyers to consult with her and choose designs, ranging from diamond necklaces to “lucky” jade pieces.
One victim, only identified as Pee, 29, said she lost over RM600,000 purchasing various authentic-looking jewellery items, including bracelets, earrings, and chains, which were later revealed to be counterfeit following laboratory tests.
"I knew her through Instagram, I always watched the content she posted, and she sold products like jade, diamonds, and beauty items. I didn’t expect her to sell fakes because I often saw her share testimonials online and she has over 800,000 followers, which made me confident," Pee told reporters at Wisma MCA today.
MCA’s Public Services and Complaints Bureau Executive Advisor Datuk Seri Michael Chong described the suspect as exploiting Chinese cultural beliefs in feng shui to profit.
"She used her social media platform to captivate young Chinese women by displaying luxury and beauty in the content she uploaded on Instagram. She is clever, using sweet words and misleading statements that sound truthful to deceive her victims.
“Many have already been tricked, including some from Singapore. Today, around 30 victims came forward seeking justice and raising public awareness about this scam," he said.
Chong added that while only 30 victims were present, there are believed to be more than 80 affected individuals.
Lawyer Esther Hor said the influencer used confusing claims to sell beauty products and jewellery.
"In her messages, she claimed the beauty products were free from harmful substances, but laboratory tests found dangerous chemicals. She also said the items needed to be purchased with other products to be effective according to feng shui," Hor explained.
The total losses reported by the victims since 2023 are estimated to exceed RM1 million, with premium products sold at prices starting from RM1,000.
A review of the influencer’s social media accounts showed them still active, regularly posting images of luxury vehicles and high-end goods. - November 6, 2025
