GABUNGAN Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has fielded Shah Alfie Yahya, the younger brother of Putatan Member of Parliament, Datuk Ir Shahelmey, to contest the Tanjung Keramat State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat.
Shahelmey, who was previously the incumbent for the seat, did not defend his seat, believed to be related to his suspended membership in UMNO.
If he continues to contest under the GRS ticket, he will face legal action from his party.
Also, the Anti-Hopping Act prohibits members of Parliament from contesting or leaving their original party.
Announcing their candidates today, GRS said they will contest in 55 of the 73 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN).
Its chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said that the candidates officially announced today involve 51 seats, while four more candidates are expected to be announced tomorrow.
The Sabah Chief Minister called on all parties to close ranks to ensure the coalition's victory, for the sake of the continuity of the state government administration.
"A total of 33 percent are new faces and God willing, if we unite in the name of GRS, we will be the government again after this.
'I hope everyone here will accept these candidates with open hearts in the name of GRS," he said.
GRS consists of six component parties, namely Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat); United Sabah National Organisation (USNO); Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS); Liberal Democratic Party (LDP); Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS); and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).
GRS and PH are working together in the 17th general election, with PKR contesting 10 seats, DAP (eight seats), while Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is expected to contest one seat.
However, another PH component party, the United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO), announced its withdrawal from the coalition last Monday.
