A POLICE officer has been arrested in connection with a string of robberies, including at a second-hand clothing boutique, after being found to have orchestrated five separate thefts in the Kota Bharu area this year.
The 43-year-old suspect, currently suspended from duty over a prior drug-related offence, was apprehended at a residence in Pengkalan Chep at 7 pm yesterday.
Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, said the arrest followed reports of a recent robbery at the boutique on 10 November. “Following this apprehension, we seized various items including a replica pistol used by the suspect to intimidate victims, as well as yaba pills, helmets and wristwatches,” he told a press conference today.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, a member of the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit, had been involved in five robbery cases this year. Tests on the officer’s urine returned positive for drugs. “His modus operandi involved targeting business premises and using the imitation firearm to instil fear in victims,” Mohd Yusoff added.
The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery, as well as Sections 12(2) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
This incident has sparked concerns over internal discipline and oversight within the police force, as an officer entrusted with public safety is now facing serious criminal allegations. - November 19, 2025
