A TOTAL 85 police reports were received during the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN) campaign period which began on November 15.
Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Jauteh Dikun, said that with so many parties involved in this PRN, certain issues were inevitable and several parties would definitely file reports.
"Among the offences, there were several cases of misuse of social media and cases of mischief, especially vandalism involving posters, flags and other campaign materials. These complaints comprised the majority of the reports received.
"Of the 85 reports, the police have opened 53 investigation papers," he said after early voting at the Sabah Police Contingent (IPK) Headquarters, today.
Jauteh said that as of last night, a total of 7,288 campaign permits had been issued to all election campaign workers and for polling day this Saturday, more than 12,000 police personnel would be deployed throughout Sabah.
"All preparations have been made as best as possible. We have held discussions with the Election Commission (EC) and all agencies involved in the management of this election to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
"From the police side, we are fully prepared to provide services, especially in terms of security and public order," he said, also advising all officers and personnel involved in early voting to go to their respective voting locations as early as possible.
"At the moment, the weather is still good, so we encourage them to arrive early to fulfill their responsibilities. Although tents have been provided, rain could cause inconvenience to voters," he said.
As of 10 am this morning, the early voting turnout was 46.9 percent. According to the EC, a total of 24,426 early voters are expected to fulfil their responsibilities today. - November 25, 2025
