THE Democratic Action Party (DAP) elected representatives who fail to meet the party’s key performance indicators (KPIs) could lose their chance to contest in the 16th General Election (GE16), as the party steps up scrutiny of their performance and service to constituents.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said representatives were assessed on community service, constituency work, party activities, efforts to strengthen the organisation and their presence on the ground.

“The most important thing is their presence in their constituencies and whether they are active on the ground. These are all KPIs set for our elected representatives.

“If anyone is less active, we will ensure changes are made. We constantly remind them that poor performance increases the likelihood of them not being nominated,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the 24th Perak DAP Convention at the Ipoh Convention Centre on Sunday.

Loke said Perak DAP, under state chairman Nga Kor Ming, had implemented a particularly stringent monitoring system to ensure elected representatives fulfilled their responsibilities to the public and the party.

He said the approach appeared to be effective, with DAP representatives in Perak generally active in their respective constituencies.

Continuous performance assessments were necessary to ensure elected representatives worked to deliver better service and honour the mandate given to them by voters, he added.

Loke said DAP state organisations nationwide also monitored their elected representatives, although the methods and intensity of assessment varied between states.

“Every state has its own way of monitoring performance. But what I highlighted about Perak DAP is that the monitoring is very strict.

“I can see the results, with our elected representatives active on the ground. If there are shortcomings, we ensure they improve their performance,” he said.

Asked about seat allocation among Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties for the Melaka state election, Loke said the matter had been settled. - October 18, 2026
