FOUR students have been detained to assist investigations into an incident where a male student was beaten to the point of fainting before being found in the school's dormitory toilet in Sungei Petani.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, confirmed the arrest of the four students, aged 16 to 17, following the incident which was reported to have occurred at midnight last Monday.
"So far, one of the four students involved, the 16-year-old, has been remanded at the Sungai Petani Court to assist in the investigation, while the other three have been released," he said in a statement.
Commenting on the incident, he said the victim's mother received a call from a school teacher last Monday at 9.05am, informing her son was found unconscious in the school toilet.The student was then taken to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) for treatment.
"The victim's mother informed that her son told her that he was allegedly beaten by several students at about 12.10 am last Monday until he fainted.
"Investigations found that the incident occurred in the school dormitory with the cause believed to be because the victim was said to have badmouthed a friend of one of the students involved.
"Following that, the suspect invited three more of his friends to look for the victim, which led to a fight," he said.
Hanyan said this was the first incident involving the school and there were no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code. - November 27, 2025
