THREE Japanese nationals who tried to smuggle cannabis worth RM4.2 million were arrested by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on November 18.

The KLIA JKDM Customs Director, Zulkifli Muhammad said the drugs, weighing 43.6 kilograms, were seized when the three individuals tried to enter the country through the International Arrivals Hall, Terminal 1 at KLIA.

"Customs detected the substance after the luggage belonging to the three Japanese nationals was scanned. Further physical inspection of the suspects' luggage found several plastic packages containing plants suspected of being marijuana.

"The marijuana was hidden in packages of dry food in six luggage belonging to all the suspects," he said in a statement today.

According to him, all suspects and case items were handed over to the KLIA JKDM Enforcement Division for further investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The public can help the JKDM combat smuggling crimes, especially cigarettes, liquor, firecrackers, drugs, vehicles and others and are advised not to get involved in the activities in question,” he said. - November 29, 2025
