FOUR Colombian men faced Sessions Courts in Kuala Lumpur today over separate burglary and theft allegations, denying claims that they had unlawfully entered two residences and stolen jewellery and foreign currency worth RM150,000.

The accused, Jorge Ivan Cardona Sanchez, 35, Christian Camilo Cortes Sanchez, 32, Oscar Jesus Gonzales Nieto, 30, and Jhon Pablo Espitia Riverros, 47, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them in Spanish before Judges Suhaila Haron and Dr Azrol Abdullah.

In the first case before Judge Suhaila, the men were jointly charged with breaking into a house at Lorong Setia Bistari, Bukit Damansara, on 10 October at 8.06 pm, and stealing jewellery and cash in foreign currencies including Vietnamese dong, Thai baht, and Australian dollars from an Australian man and a local woman. The stolen items included a bracelet, two necklaces, and a ring.

The charges of housebreaking were framed under Section 457 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34, carrying a maximum imprisonment of five years and a fine. The theft charges were brought under Section 379 read together with Section 34, punishable by up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

In the second case before Judge Dr Azrol, the defendants were accused of breaking into the home of a 38-year-old local woman in Desa Sri Hartamas on 11 October at 9 pm, facing similar charges under Section 457.

No bail was granted, and the courts have fixed 9 January next year for the case to be re-mentioned.

The prosecutions were handled by Deputy Public Prosecutors Nor Aisyah Mohamed Zanyuin and Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir, while all four defendants were represented by lawyer Nurshafiqa Balqish Jaffri. - December 1, 2025
