HIS MAJESTY Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, presided over a pair of significant ceremonies at Istana Negara today, conferring instruments of appointment upon newly elevated members of the judiciary before later being proclaimed the Principal Patron of the Malaysian Scouts Association.
At the Dewan Singgahsana Kecil, Sultan Ibrahim presented the instrument of appointment to the newly appointed Chief Judge of Malaya, Datuk Hashim Hamzah.
The ceremony continued with the conferment of appointment instruments on four judges of the Federal Court: Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali, Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, Datuk Azimah Omar and Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
Among those in attendance were the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
The nation’s top judicial officers were also present, including the Chief Justice, Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, the President of the Court of Appeal, Datuk Abu Bakar Jais, the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Datuk Azizah Nawawi, and the Attorney General, Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.
Later, in a separate ceremony at the Dewan Seri Bendahara, Sultan Ibrahim was formally proclaimed the Principal Patron of the Malaysian Scouts Association.
The proclamation address was delivered by the Chief Scout of Malaysia, Major General Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Zin Bidin, in accordance with Part II, Section 1, Article 11(1) of the Policy, Organisation and Rules (2010), read together with Parliamentary Act 784, the Malaysian Scouts Federation Act 1968 (revised 2016).
In conjunction with the proclamation, the King was also presented with the First Class Bintang Semangat Padi Emas of the Malaysian Scouts Association.
Present were the Deputy President of the National Scout Council, Datuk Ahmad Shaziy Ismail Bakti, the Vice-President, Datuk Zamani Tambichek, and the Council Treasurer, Tan Sri Abdullah Taib.
The two ceremonies highlighted the continuity of Malaysia’s judicial leadership and reaffirmed the monarchy’s longstanding relationship with one of the country’s oldest youth movements. - December 3, 2025
