"THE people want quality of life, not Gardenia bread," was the reminder from Deputy Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Datuk Al-Hambra Tun Juhar before starting the second session of the debate on the Supply Bill (2026) 2025 today.

He delivered the reminder while congratulating all 73 State Assemblymen (ADUNs) who successfully obtained the people's mandate in the recent State Election (PRN).

"Welcome to the new ADUNs and to the old ADUNs also. People have great hopes for all of you because you are the ones responsible for raising the standard of living of the people in your respective areas.

"Not everyone can be rich, but all people deserve a better life because what they want is quality of life, not Gardenia bread. I repeat, what the people want is quality of life, not Gardenia bread," he said as reported by Bernama.

He stressed that every ADUN must fulfil the promises that have been given in addition to appearing as a passionate, visionary and responsible leader in fighting for the interests of the people.

"So fulfil the promises that have been made. May you be a passionate leader, may you be a visionary Yang Berhormat, and most importantly, may you be a responsible Yang Berhormat. With that, I wish you well in your duties," he said.

This Sabah State Legislative Assembly session is the first after the state election held on November 29, which saw Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) successfully form a government after receiving support from other state assemblymen.
