THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has initiated OPS KESAN 5.0 from 1 January 2026 to monitor and suppress exploitative pricing practices.
The operation coincides with the implementation of Phase 2 of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which also came into effect on the same date.
The initiative employs a multi-pronged strategy to ensure fair market conduct, including continuous price data collection, daily monitoring of 316 essential items, collaboration with government agencies, and encouragement of public participation through the ‘KITA GEMPUR’ movement aimed at eradicating price manipulation and leakage.
KPDN Director General of Enforcement Datuk Azman Adam outlined the ministry’s approach, noting that the operation also establishes standard procedures for handling complaints regarding prices, service charges, and supply, with enforcement follow-up required within 24 hours of receiving any report.
The ministry has provided several channels for the public to submit information or complaints, including WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, the e-Aduan KPDN portal at [http://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my](http://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my), the 1-800-886-800 call centre, and the Ez ADU KPDN smartphone application.
Azman stressed that OPS KESAN 5.0 aims to detect any party increasing prices to secure excessive profits in the wake of the public service salary adjustments.
“Individual traders found guilty of price gouging may be fined up to RM100,000, face imprisonment for up to three years, or both. Companies may incur fines up to RM500,000 if convicted,” he said.
