PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) is expected to convene a meeting on Thursday to deliberate on the appointment of a new coalition chairman following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last month.

PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said he would not be attending the meeting, noting that the party would already be represented by six senior leaders.

“I am not involved in the meeting because PAS already has six leaders participating. But I was informed the meeting will take place Jan 9,” said Mohd Amar, who is also the Kelantan State Assembly Speaker.

When asked whether Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Sanusi Md Nor were among the potential candidates for the post, Mohd Amar said the final decision rested with PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“The president will decide. He already has a list of names,” said the Panchor assemblyman.

Mohd Amar added that PAS was not short of suitable candidates to assume the coalition’s top leadership position.

“There are many potential candidates within PAS,” he said.

On 30 December, Muhyiddin confirmed that he had resigned as PN chairman, with his departure taking effect on New Year’s Day. - January 8, 2025
