A PROPERTY consultant has suffered losses amounting to RM622,161 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scheme that purportedly offered returns of up to 50 per cent.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 71-year-old man was drawn into the scheme on 16 October last year after a suspect approached him via WhatsApp with an investment offer promising lucrative profits.
He said the victim was invited to participate in the investment and instructed to download a link provided by the suspect.
“Between 27 October and 27 December last year, the victim made 16 transactions to four different accounts involving a total amount of RM622,161.
“The victim did receive early returns amounting to RM140,889 but reinvested the money on the suspect’s instructions.
“He realised he had been cheated after the suspect asked him to top up an additional RM1 million in capital, supposedly to enable all profits to be withdrawn.
“Investigations found that the victim’s source of funds came from his personal savings,” he said in a statement today.
Yahaya added that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. - January 13, 2026
