THE Chairman of Bersatu Kelantan, Datuk Kamaruddin Md Nor, said he was unaware of any plans to disband the divisions and had only learned about the speculation through media reports.
He emphasised that neither party divisions nor branches possess the authority to dissolve themselves, stressing that such power rests solely with the party’s Majlis Pimpinan Tertinggi (MPT), or Supreme Leadership Council.
“For dissolution, it is not within the power of a division or branch and they need to understand the law – the procedures for constitution and dissolution,” he explained.
He added that “It is the MPT that established the divisions and it is not like they can ‘give birth’ to one themselves. Other people help to ‘give birth’ (MPT). At the divisional level, there is no power to dissolve.
That matter is just rumours or idle talk at the coffee shop.”
Kamaruddin acknowledged that people are free to talk, but reiterated that the authority to disband a division lies exclusively with the MPT.
Earlier reports had indicated that six Bersatu divisions in Kelantan – in Kota Bharu, Ketereh, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Jeli and Pasir Mas – were expected to announce their dissolution shortly, citing a purported loss of confidence in the party’s President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. - February 18, 2026
