THE Terengganu government fully respects the legal process and the prosecution involving one of its State Executive Council Members.

Its Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, said that integrity and the rule of law must be prioritised and all parties are urged not to make any preliminary assessments.

According to him, the principle of innocence until proven guilty in court must be upheld by all parties to avoid interference with the process of justice.

"I have taken note of the issue of an Exco member who is currently at the prosecution and trial stage. The state government is committed to maintaining integrity and fully respecting the ongoing legal process.

"All parties are requested not to speculate or make any preliminary assessments that could affect the justice process," he said in a statement.

Ahmad Samsuri explained that the individual involved is not required to resign at this time.

He said that the individual's role as an Exco will not interfere with or affect the course of the prosecution process and trial in court.

Earlier, Terengganu Infrastructure, Utilities and Rural Development Committee Chairman Datuk Hanafiah Mat claimed trial to two counts of abuse of power in getting his sons to work at a government-linked company (GLC) six and eight years ago.

The 66-year-old Chukai State Assemblyman pleaded not guilty after both charges were read out before Judge Azman Mustapha in the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court. – February 24, 2026
