THE Umno Supreme Council meeting unanimously agreed to postpone the party's election scheduled for this year to a new date after the 16th General Election (GE16).

Umno Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said the decision was in line with the provisions of the Umno Constitution under Clause 10.16, Clause 10.6.1 and Clause 10.6.2.

He said the postponement was to ensure that the entire party machinery at all levels was prepared to face the possibility of state elections (PRN) and GE16, which could be held at any time starting this year.

"The dates for the branch meetings are April 1 to May 17, 2026, the Umno divisional delegates meeting from June 1 to July 12, 2026 and the Umno general assembly between August 12 to August 16, 2026.

"The meeting unanimously agreed to postpone the Umno Election scheduled for this year to a date not exceeding six months after the 16th GE," he said in a media statement on Thursday.

Asyraf Wajdi added that Umno will also be organising the Bumiputera Education Congress on 1 May 2026 in conjunction with Umno's 80th Anniversary celebrations this year.

According to him, the Umno Convention to be held on 2 May 2026 at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre, will be the culmination of the historic celebration. – February 26, 2026
