THE central leadership of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat has given Pandan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli until today to provide an official explanation regarding reports that he had declared his intention to leave the party.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the letter was issued on 23 February, giving the former deputy party president a five-day period to respond formally and clarify his actual intentions.
She highlighted that statements made by Rafizi regarding a possible candidacy in the 16th General Election (PRU16) and hints at leaving the party could create the perception that he already intends to depart.
“When he expressed the intention to contest in PRU16 and the possibility of leaving the party, it can give the perception that there is already a will to exit the party,” Fuziah said during a press conference following the Ramadan Bazaar Rahmah (BBR) 2026 walkabout in the East Zone.
Fuziah, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, clarified that the show-cause letter is not a punitive measure but rather a formal opportunity for Rafizi to explain the situation in accordance with party procedures.
“Ideally, this should be done following the party constitution, which clearly states under Clause 9.1(c) regarding a member’s declaration of leaving the party,” she said.
The five-day period is considered fair, allowing Rafizi the chance to provide an explanation and preventing any hasty action without proper context.
“Any information will be presented at the Central Leadership Council meeting scheduled for 1 March,” Fuziah added.
Recently, in an interview with local Chinese media, Rafizi suggested that he intends to defend his Pandan parliamentary seat in PRU16 even if he contests without PKR’s support or under the party banner. - February 28, 2026
