AUTHORITIES in Kuala Lumpur issued 797 summonses and seized 80 motorcycles during an overnight integrated operation targeting illegal street racing and road hooliganism across several hotspots in the capital.
The enforcement exercise was carried out by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
The operation was conducted in two phases between 8pm and 5am at areas frequently associated with street racing, including Jalan Pahang, Jalan Genting Klang and Jalan Semarak.
Deputy chief of Kuala Lumpur JSPT, Suffian Abdullah, said approximately 2,000 vehicles were inspected during the operation.
“For tonight, we issued a total of 682 police summonses while JPJ also issued 115 notices.
“The motorcycles that were seized will be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station for further inspection.
“In addition, one teenager was detained during this operation under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987, while another fled and abandoned a motorcycle, which we will bring in for further action against the owner,” he said during a press briefing while monitoring the operation at Jalan Semarak early this morning.
According to Suffian, many of those inspected and suspected of committing traffic offences were youths aged between 15 and 21.
He said the 80 motorcycles were seized due to suspected extreme modifications, highlighting the seriousness of illegal racing activities in the city.
The seized motorcycles will be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station for further inspection and investigation.
Suffian added that enforcement operations would continue to be conducted regularly to curb illegal racing and street hooliganism, particularly in areas that frequently generate complaints from the public.
“One of the reasons these ‘hot spot’ locations were chosen for the operation is because they are often the focus of street hooligans who cause disturbances to the public.
“At this stage, we will continue to implement such measures regularly. The Kuala Lumpur JSPT will not remain idle and will always take firm action,” he said. - March 8, 2026
