ALL ministries, agencies and government-linked companies (GLCs) will not be organising open house celebrations in conjunction with Aidilfitri this year, as a cost-saving measure following the global economic uncertainty caused by the conflict in West Asia.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision agreed by the Cabinet was intended to send a clear message that the government is committed to taking a more moderate and prudent approach to spending.
"As a sign for the leadership to start taking more positive steps, I have decided with the Cabinet earlier that all government agencies and GLICs (government-linked investment companies) will not be organising open house celebrations.
"Some have asked if the situation is under control, prices and essential goods such as oil and gas can still be provided and sufficient, why do we need to be vigilant and save?
"I say this is a sensible step for us so that we don't get caught up in a worse situation. So it's better to take a moderate, more responsible stance," said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, at a special press conference on the latest developments in the conflict in West Asia today.
Apart from the cancellation of the open house, Anwar said ministers and members of the administration were also restricted from making trips abroad, except for scheduled or mandatory business.
"The government will continue to monitor developments in West Asia and plan measures to ensure continued economic growth and the well-being of the people," he said. - March 11, 2026
