A FOREIGN woman was found dead with 14 stab wounds in a hotel room in Taman Maju Jaya, Johor Bahru, this morning.

Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, said the body of the 37-year-old woman was found after receiving a report at 5.30 am.

He said initial investigations found that the victim was believed to have died between 1.30 am and 4.30 am.

He said there were 11 stab wounds to the chest and one each to her neck, index finger and right arm.

"The murder suspect is believed to be a foreign man who fled after the incident," he said.

He said the motive for the murder was still under investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which, if convicted, carries a death sentence, or imprisonment for not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years and must also be given not less than twelve strokes of the cane.
