ACTIVIST Tamim Dahri, along with independent preacher Zamri Vinoth and two other individuals, will be charged in court tomorrow in connection with an investigation into statements that sparked a provocative debate on religious and racial issues.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the investigation into the four individuals has been completed, and the investigation papers have been referred separately to the Attorney-General's Chambers and the State Director of Prosecutions.
According to him, the referral was made in accordance with Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution.
"Among the individuals involved is Zamri Vinoth, who will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court.
"He will be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code in relation to the statement of organising a gathering in the Sogo Complex compound on February 7," he told a press conference at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters (IPD).
Mohd Khalid said Tamim Dahri is expected to be charged at the Langkawi Magistrate's Court, Kedah.
According to him, two other individuals, P. Mahendra Bhoopathy and D. Arumugam, will be charged at the Seremban Magistrate's Court, Negeri Sembilan and the Jawi Magistrate's Court, Penang, respectively.
In a similar development, Mohd Khalid informed that the police have intelligence information that Tamim is believed to have left the country.
"We have intelligence information that he has gone to a neighbouring country, Thailand.
“From there, we are still not sure where he is, and more information is being obtained," he said.
He said that for Zamri, the police have initial information about his movements and believe that the individual may still be in the country.
He added that the police will continue to cooperate with the authorities of neighbouring countries if necessary to ensure that the individuals involved are brought back to be charged in court.
According to him, the police will not compromise with any party involved in activities that could threaten public order and security.
Previously, the police had tracked down Zamri Vinoth and Tamim Dahri after they were believed to be in Thailand to bring them both back to face charges in court.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk M. Kumar said efforts to track them down also involved the cooperation of Thai authorities.
According to him, the cooperation was carried out through the PDRM security liaison officer (SLO) stationed in the country.
He said checks found that both of them had left the country legally for Thailand.
The media previously reported that Zamri and Tamim were believed to be in Thailand while the investigation against them was still ongoing. – March 16, 2026
