A MAN suspected of playing the role of a recruiter targeting school students to lure teenagers into gangsterism in Seremban has been detained.

The 20-year-old local suspect was arrested by the Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division (D7) of the Negeri Sembilan Contingent Police Headquarters together with the D7 branch of the Seremban District Police Headquarters in front of a restaurant at Garden Homes, Seremban at about 9.10pm last Tuesday.

Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim said checks revealed that the suspect had four criminal records.

He said the man was remanded for three days starting Wednesday to assist investigations under Section 45 of the Societies Act 1966.

“To date, the investigation is still at an early stage and the police are in the process of identifying those involved to record their statements,” he said in a statement today.

Police had earlier received a report relating to a misunderstanding involving Year Six school students in Seremban on March 12.

He said initial investigations found elements of gangsterism involving outside parties attempting to influence the students to join an illegal group.

“Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 45 of the Societies Act 1966 for the purpose of more in-depth investigations and as a preventive measure to ensure the issue does not spread within the community, particularly involving school students,” he said. - March 20, 2026
