PN loses bid to suspend RoS freeze, to face Oct 22 court hearing
The Court's decision potentially complicates the coalition’s preparations for the Melaka state election - October 13, 2026

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has failed to obtain an immediate suspension of a Registrar of Societies (RoS) notice freezing all its activities, leaving the coalition facing a legal hurdle ahead of the Melaka state election.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court today allowed PN to proceed with its judicial review challenging the notice issued on Sept 22, but dismissed its application to suspend the notice pending the final outcome of the case.

Judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad fixed Oct 22 to hear PN’s application for an inter partes suspension of the notice, which would allow both sides to present their arguments.

He made the decision after hearing submissions from Ivanpal Singh Grewal, representing PN, and Federal Senior Counsel Nurhaffiza Azizan for the respondents.

PN filed the judicial review on Oct 5 through the law firm Siddiq Azani & Co.

The applicants are recorded as PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, GERAKAN secretary-general Wong Chia Zhen, Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) secretary-general Satish Kumar, Parti Wawasan Negara (WAWASAN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and Parti Pejuang Tanahair (PEJUANG) secretary-general Datuk Sazmi Miah.

The respondents are Registrar of Societies Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

In documents supporting an expedited hearing, PN’s lawyers argued that unless the notice was suspended or overturned before nominations for the Melaka state election, candidates would be unable to contest under the coalition’s name and symbol or campaign as PN candidates.

The judicial review seeks to challenge the legality of the RoS notice, while the court has yet to determine the substantive merits of the challenge. - October 13, 2026
