PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) already has a candidate for the Opposition Leader and is just waiting for it to be finalised before officially announcing it.

PAS Vice President Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the delay in the announcement should not be viewed negatively, as it is not an urgent need at this time.

“There are already two or three names of candidates, but they have not been finalised.

“The need is not that urgent because Parliament is not even in session anytime soon,” he said.

He said this when asked to comment on allegations that the delay in appointing the Opposition Leader gave a poor impression of the leadership.

Mohd Amar, however, did not provide details or confirm the names mentioned as being likely to fill the position, including PAS Deputy President, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

“I don't know because I'm not the one who made the decision.

“Let's just wait for the official announcement later,” he said.

In related developments, he also touched on the performance evaluation of PAS elected representatives in Kelantan, which is usually carried out by a special committee at the state level.

According to him, the evaluation is usually carried out after two to three years of the term to assess current performance before any further action is taken by the state leadership.

“The results of the study will be presented to the Commissioner and Menteri Besar for further action,” he added. – April 9, 2026
