THE decision on the US$14.57 million lawsuit by jewellery company, Global Royalty Trading SAL, against Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor regarding the loss of more than 40 pieces of jewellery will be decided by the High Court on June 10.
Judge, Datuk Quay Chew Soon, set the date after Senior Federal Counsel Siti Aishah Ramlan informed that contractor, Chong Tong Leong, was the last witness to give evidence in the case.
During the proceedings, Chew Soon said, the jewellery company from Lebanon, as the plaintiff, must file written submissions on May 13.
"Meanwhile, the defendant (Rosmah) responded to the submissions on May 28, and the court set June 10 for the decision to be delivered via the Zoom application," he said.
In these proceedings, Tong Leong, as the sixth witness for the third party, said that he was the contractor hired to renovate the house and office.
For the renovation of the luxury residence at Pavilion Residences linked to Rosmah, 75, he said that the renovation work was carried out from March to May 2018.
The man said that the owner of the unit, known as Nadziff, asked him to renovate the house, including repairing the air conditioner.
When he arrived at the residence three days before the police raid, Tong Leong, 53, said that there were several suitcases placed in the basement.
"I arrived alone at the unit between 11 am and 12 pm on May 14, 2018, to inspect before the air conditioner was installed.
"Seeing the situation, I immediately left the unit and headed to the parking lot because I was worried that something undesirable would happen," he said.
The hearing of the suit lasted for three days, starting last Monday, with the sole witness for the plaintiff, Global Royalty, namely the Managing Director of Global Royalty Trading SAL, Samer Hassib Halimeh, giving evidence.
This was followed by the testimony of the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the sole defendant.
Apart from Tong Leong, among the five third-party witnesses who attended to give evidence were former Director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh; former Deputy Director of the Investigation Department Commercial Crime, Bukit Aman (Intelligence/Operations) and senior police officer, ACP Foo Wei Min.
On March 29, 2023, Global Royalty sued Rosmah and claimed that she lied that 44 pieces of jewellery including diamond necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets and tiaras handed over to her by a company agent were seized by Malaysian authorities for offences under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
The Beirut-based company claimed that only one of the 44 pieces of jewellery involved was in the custody and control of the police, while the remaining 43 were not in their custody.
Global Royalty then claimed that Rosmah had placed the responsibility on the Malaysian Government when, in fact, the jewellery had been lost.
The Inspector-General of Police and the government were named as third parties in the lawsuit. – April 15, 2026
