ONE of seven Malaysian ships carrying oil has suffered damage and is unable to depart from a port in the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said one of the two ships that passed through the strait had arrived, while another was approaching national waters.

He said the government was currently monitoring the condition of five other ships that had not yet passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

"One ship has arrived, another is about to arrive and enter Malaysian waters, meaning there are two more ships. We are still monitoring closely.

"In terms of approval, Iran did approve seven of our ships (to pass the Strait of Hormuz), but one ship had a problem, so it could not depart from the port.

"Due to this latest situation, we are facing a little problem," he told the media after performing Friday prayers at the Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Surau, today.

Meanwhile, Anwar said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan would represent him at a special international conference on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz organised by the United Kingdom and France tonight.

He said the invitation was extended to him by French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the issue of freedom of passage with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. - April 17, 2026
