KEADILAN youth (AMK) has condemned the actions of former Barisan Nasional (BN) Deputy Director of Strategic Communications, Datuk Eric See-To, who allegedly mocked a Quranic verse cited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of the 2027 Budget on Friday.

Its Information Chief, Danish Hairudin, stated that differences in political views should not lead anyone to disregard decorum and respect for the sanctity of the Muslim holy book.

He added that while criticism of the government and the Prime Minister is certainly permissible, it must be expressed respectfully and without turning Quranic verses into objects of ridicule.

"Even if you dislike Anwar, maintain proper respect for the Quran.

"When political hatred escalates to the point of mocking Quranic verses recited by the Prime Minister while tabling the 2027 Budget yesterday, the line is crossed," he said in a statement.

Anwar drew public attention by using several rarely heard terms, including ‘waad’ and ‘lighad’, during the budget presentation.

‘Waad’ and ‘lighad’ are Arabic terms meaning 'promise' and 'for the future,' respectively.

Danish stated that differing opinions regarding the budget presentation should focus on the policies, allocations, and figures announced by the government.

"Criticise the policies; debate the figures. Do not turn the sanctity of the Quran into an object of ridicule simply to attack Anwar," he said. – October 10, 2026
