ANTI-corruption authorities have intensified their investigation into a RM1.1 billion government agreement with British semiconductor firm Arm Holdings, summoning Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli to provide a statement.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that the former economy minister was called in at 10am to assist with inquiries under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which relates to the misuse of position for gratification.
Senior Investigation Division director Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar said Rafizi’s appearance follows the questioning of his aide, James Chai, who was interviewed over three consecutive days last week.
“A total of 22 statements have been recorded, including from ministers and senior officials from several government agencies since the investigation began on 13 February 2025.
“Last week, we recorded statements from James Chai over three consecutive days starting Tuesday,” he said.
The commission opened its investigation on 16 February following complaints by several non-governmental organisations alleging that the deal had been rushed through and structured in a manner potentially unfavourable to the government, with possible financial implications.
Authorities are also examining whether conflicts of interest may have arisen, including claims that certain individuals were later appointed to senior positions within the foreign company after leaving roles in a government ministry.
Earlier, the MACC had issued a two-week notice on 1 April for James Chai, who was then in London, to return and assist in the investigation, offering to cover his travel expenses.
Rafizi confirmed that he had received formal notice to attend the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya and said he would cooperate fully with investigators alongside his legal counsel.
He indicated that the case could evolve into a significant and protracted legal process involving senior national leadership.
The Pandan MP said the matter “will be a long and interesting trial because many top national leaders will be called as witnesses, including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and ministers.” - May 4, 2026
