NATIONAL leaders have marked Mother’s Day with public messages of appreciation, recognising mothers as the backbone of families and society, while highlighting the growing challenges faced by households amid economic and social change.

Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof led the tributes, describing mothers as the foundation of both family cohesion and national stability, and acknowledging their sacrifices in raising children in increasingly complex modern conditions.

“Indeed, the strength of a nation begins with a strong family institution, and at the centre of that strength stands a mother who is resilient, patient and full of love,” he said in a social media posting.

He said mothers today face mounting pressures in managing households, particularly in navigating economic uncertainties and the demands of parenting in a digital age.

“In facing current challenges, the MADANI Government is strengthening various measures to ensure supply stability and reduce the burden borne by the people, especially families and mothers who are the main managers within households,” he said.

Fadillah extended Mother’s Day greetings and expressed hope that mothers’ contributions would continue to be recognised and serve as inspiration for future generations.

He also cited a verse from the Quran: “And We have enjoined upon man to be good to his parents. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship…” (Al-Ahqaf 46:15).

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek also paid tribute, describing mothers as extraordinary individuals and “warriors of love” who endure hardship and sacrifice for their families.

“Pure maternal love is irreplaceable. Their sacrifices and service are beyond repayment. Steadfast as a mother’s love. Thank you to all extraordinary women who are mothers,” she said.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said mothers represent unconditional love and unwavering commitment, urging Malaysians to show appreciation while they still have the opportunity.

“As long as we still have the opportunity, embrace your mother, appreciate your mother and pray for your mother every day,” he said.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan also extended greetings, praising mothers for their strength, compassion and selfless dedication.

“May all your sacrifices always be appreciated and blessed,” he said.

Mother’s Day is observed globally on the second Sunday of May each year, with celebrations in Malaysia typically marked by family gatherings and public expressions of gratitude for mothers’ contributions to society. - May 10, 2026
