A STATE-of-the-art sports complex dedicated to polo and equestrian events is reportedly under development in Cyberjaya, with an estimated cost of RM40 million.

Sources told The Vibes that the initiative is spearheaded by the Selangor Polo Club, a registered organisation under the Sports Commissioner, which is also under the patronage of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor.

The complex will additionally feature world-class pickleball facilities.

“Selangor has long played a pivotal role in promoting and advancing polo and equestrian sports in Malaysia.

“The development of this complex, expected to be completed this month, coincides with Selangor’s selection as host for the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXII), as it will serve as the venue for equestrian events,” the source said.

It is understood that Sultan Sharafuddin will officiate the opening ceremony, scheduled for early October.

The occasion will also feature a Polo Championship in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Sultan’s 25-year reign, marking the first event to be held at the new facility.

“The championship is slated to run from 6 to 17 October. During the celebrations, the sports complex will also host community programs in collaboration with the Sepang Municipal Council,” the source added.

The Vibes was informed that the club is seeking RM8 million in sponsorship from Selangor Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

“The allocation is intended to benefit the people of Selangor whenever they use the complex, which will become a key landmark in the Sepang district.”

“The requested funding is crucial to cover infrastructure development, facility upgrades, supporting amenities, and technical requirements to ensure the complex’s sustainability and high-quality operations,” the source said.

The project aligns with the state government’s vision to strengthen inclusive, high-potential sports initiatives accessible to people of all ages.

“The pickleball facilities are designed to support training programs, athlete development, and official competitions.

“According to the planned specifications, the Selangor Polo Club is confident that these facilities will be suitable for hosting state-level and international pickleball events, in line with the state government’s aim to organise the Selangor Pickleball Festival, including the Selangor International Pickleball Open this year,” the source added.

All infrastructure developments are part of the state government’s broader strategy to introduce pickleball into state-level sporting events.

“Overall, the Selangor Polo, Equestrian, and Pickleball Sports Complex is conceived as an integrated development encompassing polo, equestrian, and pickleball facilities, complete with national and international-standard infrastructure, support amenities, technical specifications, and operational readiness.

“The goal is to ensure that the complex functions as a hub for training, talent development, and the hosting of competitions at state, national, and international levels,” the source concluded. – May 10, 2026
