THE Sepang Magistrate's Court ordered the case of a couple who are each facing charges of murder and abetment to murder Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, 20, a university student in Cyberjaya in June, to be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.

The order was issued by Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani after granting an application by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin to transfer the case involving M Sri Darvien, 19, and his girlfriend, V D Thineswary, 19.

"The case has been transferred to the High Court," he said.

Sri Darvien, who is also unemployed, is charged with murdering Maniishapriet at a condominium in Cyberjaya between 9.11pm and 11.31pm, on June 23.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carriesthe death sentence, or if not sentenced to death, a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and 12 strokes of the cane.

Thineswary, who was also the victim's housemate, was charged with abetting Sri Darvien to commit the murder of Maniishapriet.

The offence was committed in the same condominium at 12.30pm, June 23.

The woman was charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code read together with Section 302 of the same code, which if convicted could result in the same punishment as Darvien.

It was earlier reported that a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student, Maniishapriet, who hails from Sarawak, was found dead in her condominium unit in Cyberjaya by a friend at 10am.

Following this, several suspects were arrested within 48 hours of the incident in raids in Johor and Melaka. – September 11, 2025
