PKR today said the membership of its two MPs, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, was terminated after they declared their move to vacate their parliamentary seats and leave the party today.

PKR Secretary-General Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the decision was made in accordance with Clause 9(1)(c) of the party's constitution after hearing of the former Deputy President and former Vice President's intention to leave the party.

"PKR has received the recording of the speeches of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announcing their decision to vacate their parliamentary seats and leave the party, today.

"The declaration is clearly in line with the provisions of Article 49A(1)(a)(ii) of the Federal Constitution.

"It clearly states that the seat of a Dewan Rakyat member shall become vacant if he is no longer a member of the political party concerned after being elected to the Dewan Rakyat as a member of a political party," he said in a statement today.

Fuziah also announced that she would refer the two cases involving the MPs to the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, regarding their status as MPs, based on the Federal Constitution.

At the same time, she said that PKR would determine the membership of other MPs who attended the same program.

In a ceremony today, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi confirmed that they would take over a political party known as Parti Bersama Malaysia (MUP).

The symbolic handover of the party, which will be led by Rafizi and Nik Nazmi from now on, was made at the announcement of the political direction of the two leaders in Petaling Jaya.

Other PKR MPs who were seen attending the same ceremony were Wong Chen (Subang), Datuk Bakhtiar Wan Chik (Balik Pulau), Rodziah Ismail (Ampang), Zahir Hassan (Wangsa Maju) and Lee Chean Chung (Petaling Jaya).

Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced that they would vacate their respective parliamentary seats effective tomorrow.

Both of them will also inform Fuziah via an official letter about their decision to leave PKR, this Tuesday. – May 17, 2026
