THE Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) has not received any reports on insufficient food supply to date, including during the festive season following the global supply crisis.

Its Deputy Secretary-General (Development), Datuk Luqman Ahmad, said, from the assessment conducted taking into account the uncertain weather conditions, the country's food supply is sufficient until June.

"For the following month, the ministry has various approaches to ensure that supply stability is guaranteed.

"If the supply is not sufficient, we have room to bring in immediate supplies from producing countries because the majority of the goods we import are from countries that are not involved in the crisis in West Asia," he said as reported by Bernama.

He said that the government, through the National Agro-Food Policy 2.0, has also allocated RM30 million per year for the empowerment of entrepreneurs, infrastructure and food security implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Meanwhile, Luqman said that the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA)'s Agro Madani Sales Programme recorded encouraging achievements with sales value reaching RM101 million last year, through 4,695 programmes nationwide and benefiting more than 6.89 million consumers.

"For this year, a total of 561 programs have been implemented with a sales value of RM8.5 million until May 17.

"In fact, for the three-day event in Kelantan starting yesterday (Friday), we are targeting 50,000 visitors with a sales value of RM750,000 involving 204 entrepreneurs," he said.

He said a total of 11,400 units of RM5 coupons were also provided to visitors for the purchase of selected fresh products, including chicken, meat, fish, fruits and vegetables, as well as special sales of MADANI combos and happy hour prices.

"Visitors also have the opportunity to receive Agrobazaar Online vouchers worth RM5 and RM10 for purchases of RM15 and RM30 and above at the FAMA exhibition booth.

"This initiative is to help reduce the people's cost of living while also encouraging direct purchases from local entrepreneurs without involving middlemen," he said. – May 23, 2026
