THE United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) has submitted an application to become a component party of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick, who led the party delegation, met with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also the GRS Chairman, before submitting the application.

According to Ewon, UPKO intends to contribute to the efforts of unification and cooperation of local parties in Sabah to strengthen the state's development and fight for rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution.

"The Sabah First vision championed by UPKO is in line with the GRS struggle through the Halatuju Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0, which needs to be strengthened through closer cooperation and unification of local parties in Sabah," he said.

He said that the UPKO Supreme Council meeting last Monday unanimously agreed to apply to become a GRS component party. – May 29, 2026
