ALLEGATIONS have surfaced over restrictions placed on Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar, who was expected to attend an official proclamation ceremony at the Tunku Besar Tampin’s residence but was reportedly prevented from doing so under unclear circumstances.
Former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim claimed that Tunku Nadzaruddin was also allegedly not allowed to leave his hotel in Melaka to attend the ceremony, raising questions over the legal basis for the restriction.
“He was not allowed to attend the ceremony here to carry out his duties as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
“The police also did not state why he was not allowed to come,” The Star reported him telling reporters outside the Tunku Besar Tampin’s official residence.
Rais, who previously served as Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, said he intended to seek clarification from the police regarding the matter, particularly on the legal justification for any restriction imposed.
“I want to determine for the sake of the law and the information for people in this state particularly under which provision of the law they are confining him in the hotel.
“Firstly, not allowing him to leave the premises to come here for a social responsibility.
“Number two, if at all true, why do they want to take him to Kuala Lumpur or another place as he has not committed any offence,” he added.
The alleged restriction comes amid heightened tensions surrounding events linked to the proclamation ceremony in Tampin, which has drawn significant public and political attention due to sensitivities involving Negeri Sembilan’s traditional leadership structure and adat institutions.
The authorities have not issued an official response regarding the allegations at the time. - June 5, 2026
