PUTRAJAYA – Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin today expressed her desire to defend the Masjid Tanah parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

“I am committed to (serving) the Masjid Tanah constituency and, whatever happens, I am personally ready to defend the seat,” she said after the ministry's New Year Mandate ceremony here.

She said this in response to a statement by Melaka Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who had said that the party will defend all the seats it won in the 14th general election (GE14).

In the last general election, Mas Ermieyati won the seat on a Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket.

She joined Bersatu on December 13, 2018, after quitting Umno on July 1 the same year.

On whether she has informed the Bersatu leadership of her intent, the Bersatu's Masjid Tanah division head said she is still waiting for a response from the party leadership, especially from its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. – Bernama, January 4, 2021
