SABAH’S drive to attract high-impact investment and expand its energy industry received a further boost following discussions between the state government and representatives of Malaysian and Chinese energy companies exploring opportunities in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who also serves as Sabah Finance Minister, was briefed on the latest developments in the energy sector and potential areas for future collaboration during a courtesy visit by executives from Kinara Energy and China-based Shandong Yingbao.
The meeting focused on investment prospects, industry expansion and the role strategic partnerships could play in supporting Sabah’s long-term economic ambitions, according to Daily Express.
Masidi received the delegation at his office, where Kinara Energy Executive Vice-President Francis Jepiuh and Managing Director Sylvester Linus outlined developments within the sector and presented potential opportunities linked to energy and infrastructure projects in the state.
A key theme of the discussions centred on employment generation, with both sides examining ways to increase job opportunities for Sabahans through participation in development initiatives and energy-related ventures.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between government and industry players to ensure that future investments deliver tangible economic benefits, including skills development, workforce participation and sustainable industrial growth.
Joining the delegation were Shandong Yingbao Chairman Zhang Yueling, Chief Executive Officer Lyu Binchang and several senior company representatives.
The visit served as a platform to deepen strategic ties between Sabah and international investors at a time when the state is actively pursuing quality investments capable of accelerating economic expansion and enhancing competitiveness in high-value sectors.
State leaders have increasingly prioritised partnerships that can support industrial development while creating employment opportunities for local communities, particularly in sectors viewed as critical to Sabah’s future growth.
