POLICE have detained a 15-year-old female student after a Form Three schoolgirl was stabbed during an attack at a secondary school in Banting on Monday, leaving the victim with multiple injuries to the back and shoulder.

Kuala Langat District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi confirmed the incident, saying the victim was in a stable condition and that a full statement would be issued after preliminary investigations.

"Yes, I can confirm the incident and a statement will be issued shortly. The victim is in a stable condition," he said when contacted.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and have yet to establish a motive.

According to sources, the victim was stabbed multiple times with a sharp weapon, sustaining injuries to the back and shoulder.

The suspect, who is understood to be a student at the same school, had reportedly been absent from classes for several months and was said to have been undergoing medical treatment. Police have not officially confirmed those details.

Sources said the suspect entered the school compound through the main entrance wearing a black T-shirt and red chequered trousers before the attack. The exact sequence of events leading to the stabbing remains under investigation.

Following the incident, teachers reportedly managed to calm the suspect near the school's prayer hall while school authorities contacted the police.

Officers subsequently arrested the suspect and seized a knife believed to have been used in the attack.

Videos circulating on social media appear to show a teenage girl dressed in black walking through the school compound carrying what appears to be a knife, while separate footage shows students running from the area during the incident.

Police have not verified the authenticity or context of the videos.

Claims circulating on social media alleging that the suspect was a former student seeking revenge have likewise not been substantiated, and police have not confirmed those allegations.

Authorities are expected to release further information after completing their initial enquiries. - July 6, 2026
