A HUSBAND and wife were killed in a head-on collision involving their Proton Persona and a Toyota Hilux along Jalan Lipis-Benta in Pahang on Tuesday morning.

The fatal crash occurred at about 7am at Kilometre 18 of the road near Benta Estate.

Lipis District Police Chief Superintendent Ismail Man said the couple's car was travelling from Kuala Lipis towards Raub when it collided with the pickup truck, which was approaching from the opposite direction.

The Toyota Hilux was carrying two men, aged 54 and 40, who were travelling to Gua Musang to collect a load of durians at the time of the accident.

The impact of the collision killed the Proton Persona's driver, 50-year-old Mohd Khair Zainudin, and his wife, 49-year-old Norzaili Khalil, at the scene after they sustained severe injuries.

Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the collision. - July 7, 2026
