PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today denied allegations that he bought a luxury BMW for personal use.

"Some people say that Anwar says he wants to help the poor, but he bought a big car, a new BMW... I didn't buy it, it's an old car... why would I lie?" he said.

He stressed that the Mercedes that he often uses was a gift from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.

"The one I use now, the Agong gave it to me, and I didn't take it (as private property)... I registered it under the Prime Minister's Department... don't think I'm like others, a scoundrel and stealing the people's money," he said in Johor last night.

The denial was made following allegations that went viral on social media platforms regarding the ownership status of the BMW  used by the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister's Department, together with the Ceremonial and International Conference Secretariat Division (BIUPA), in a statement last Monday, informed that the BMW car used by the Prime Minister recently is an existing government asset and not a new official vehicle.

Meanwhile, Anwar also urged the people to stop extreme racism and hate politics, and instead prioritise the spirit of unity and mutual respect as Malaysians.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said the government under his leadership would implement policies that were fair to all races without neglecting the interests of any community.

"I want all the people to stop extreme racism. Why can't we negotiate as friends, as brothers and sisters?

"Why can't we negotiate and work together as Malaysians? Why do we have to show so much hatred?" he said.

The Prime Minister also rejected claims that the MADANI Government only gives priority to the Chinese community, while explaining that every policy introduced takes into account the interests of the country as a whole. – July 10, 2026
