TWO men have been remanded for seven days to assist investigations into the death of a local man at a hotel in Sunway Mentari, Petaling Jaya, earlier this week.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said police received information about the discovery of an unconscious man at the hotel at 11.23pm on July 8.
He said the man, who was in his 30s, was found dead at the scene, with initial examinations revealing injuries on his body.
"Several items believed to assist investigations were also seized at the location. A post-mortem conducted at the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) yesterday confirmed that the cause of death was due to multiple blunt impacts to the body," he said when contacted on Friday.
Shamsudin said police arrested two local men, aged in their 20s and 30s, to assist investigations and checks revealed that both suspects had previous criminal records.
"An application for remand against both suspects was made today, and the court granted a seven-day remand order until July 16.
"The motive behind the incident is still under investigation, while efforts to track down other individuals believed to be involved are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.
He urged members of the public with information related to the incident to come forward at the nearest police station or contact investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Fandhi Fatullah Abu Bakar at 014-6303090.
Shamsudin also advised the public not to issue statements or circulate any materials on social media platforms to prevent speculation that could interfere with the police investigation. - July 10, 2026
