Johor DAP concedes defeat in the 16th Johor State Election, saying the outcome carries important lessons for the party - July 12, 2026

JOHOR DAP has accepted the outcome of the 16th Johor State Election, congratulating Barisan Nasional (BN) on its commanding victory while acknowledging that the result was a clear signal for the party to strengthen its performance.

Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching said the party respected the mandate delivered by Johor voters and expressed appreciation to supporters who turned out to vote.

"Tonight (Saturday), the results did not favour us. With humility, DAP accepts the outcome and respects the choice made by Bangsa Johor.

"We congratulate BN on its victory. We also extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who came out to vote, and DAP sincerely values all the support we received," she said in a statement.

Teo admitted the party had shortcomings that must be addressed.

"There are certainly weaknesses and shortcomings that we must improve. This result sends a message that we must do better."

She said BN had successfully defended all of its incumbent seats, while votes previously secured by Perikatan Nasional in the 2022 Johor election in Johor Jaya and Perling had largely shifted to BN, denying Pakatan Harapan victory despite improving its vote share in both constituencies.

Teo said the party would also review the factors behind its defeats in Jementah, Tangkak and other constituencies it contested before implementing improvements ahead of future elections.

"We will continue our efforts to build the nation and fight for the rights of the people," she said. - July 12, 2026
