DAP Negeri Sembilan has retained eight incumbent state assembly candidates and introduced three new faces for the 11 constituencies it will contest in the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1, favouring continuity in a bid to safeguard its electoral dominance.
State DAP chairman and secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the party decided to retain the majority of its incumbents because of their strong grassroots presence, proven track records and relatively young age, as DAP seeks to maintain its perfect winning record in the state since 2013.
The three new candidates are Lee Kai Yet (Mambau), S. Mugunthan (Seremban Jaya) and Ho Weng Wah (Temiang).
“DAP sees the need to retain the incumbents in their existing constituencies because they are still relatively young and have established good track records locally.
“Every election involves an assessment and we always evaluate the potential of new candidates. However, because the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election came earlier than expected, the rejuvenation process is not as extensive as we had originally planned,” Anthony said at the announcement of the party's Temiang candidate on Monday.
He said the party had adopted a cautious approach in candidate selection, describing the upcoming state election as a critical contest in which DAP was unwilling to take unnecessary risks.
The eight incumbents retained are Anthony Loke Siew Fook (Chennah), Desmond Sian Meow Kong (Rahang), Teo Kok Seong (Bahau), J. Arul Kumar (Nilai), Chew Seh Yong (Lobak), Nicole Tan Lee Koon (Bukit Kepayang), Choo Ken Hwa (Lukut) and S. Veerapan (Repah). - July 13, 2026
